Poet for Sudan

Sudanese-Australian poet and friend Afeif Ismail invited me to take part in a poetry event in protest of the current armed conflict devastating the country. The event took place online on Saturday 8 July 2023.

Poets from different countries around the world presented their work in solidarity with the Sudanese people: Vivian Gogurio (Brazil ), Vivian Glance (UK/Australia), Nandi Chinna (Australia), Ishraqa Mustafa (Sudan/Austria), Rafeif Ismail (Sudan/Australia), Boy John (south Sudan), David Moodey (Australia ), Tariq Tayeb (Sudan/Austria), Kim Peter Kovak (USA), Elio Novello (Australia), Khaled Omar (Sudan), Abu Zaid Al-Daqil (Sudan/Britain),

Afeif Ismail (Sudan/Australia) and myself, Tineke Van der Eecken (Belgium/Australia).

There were translations from Arabic to English and vice versa, and other languages. My poem 'For Seraphine' was translated and brilliantly read in Arabic by Abu Zaid Al-Daqil.

Many thanks to Gedamna Elsabah Cultural Forum for the recording.

May the armed conflict end and peace come soon for the people of Sudan.
